Every year, Coravin and friends gather for a Coravin blind tasting. At this year’s tasting, we debuted Coravin Sparkling – our new sparkling wine preservation system that preserves the crisp flavor and effervescence of your favorite sparkling wines for a month, ensuring that the last glass will taste just as amazing as the first. Also on rotation were Coravin Timeless and Coravin Pivot – our still wine preservations systems that preserve wine for years or weeks respectively.
The three wines being tasted at the 2021 Coravin blind tasting were 2013 Jolie Laide Grenache Syrah, 2018 La Crema Chardonnay, and a NV Champagne Veuve Clicquot Brut. The Jolie Laide was accessed using Coravin Timeless back in April of 2015, meaning it had been preserved by Coravin for 6 years. The La Crema Chardonnay was accessed with Pivot 4 weeks before the tasting and Veuve Clicquot was accessed 2 weeks prior with Sparkling.
In attendance were master sommeliers and industry professionals – tasting side-by-side trying to identify which glasses of wine were previously accessed using a Coravin preservation system.
Blind tasting results
Now for the moment you’ve been waiting for – how did our professional tasters do? Less than 10% were able to identify a glass of Coravin accessed wine. One taster even shared in confidence with our team that the accessed bottle of sparkling wine tasted better than the freshly opened bottle.
We look forward to our annual Coravin blind tastings and find joy seeing the amazement on the faces of professionals. Every blind tasting validates the hard work the Coravin team puts in to create the best wine exploration tool out there.
